Sometimes I get jealous about my children’s ability to fall asleep anywhere. Leah and Huck pretty much crash for a nap between pick ups from their sitter and carpool pick up at Nolan’s school. So I at least get a solid one hour of quiet but most of that is behind the wheel so nodding off is kinda frowned upon. If I’m riding in the car though as a passenger it’s almost guaranteed that I will fall asleep. That’s a really weird strength to have, but my record is mostly untainted. Go me!
Not really, because I’m an awful sleeper otherwise. Between having an infant, nursing an infant, and an all-round crappy sleeper with an anxiety problem I just suck at it. It would be funny if it wasn’t also so sad.
I have tried natural remedies for sleep, every stinky tea beverage, meditation, behavior therapy, diet trick, and some more serious medictions out there without much success. Alcohol works for some people. More than one friend has suggested I try a glass of red wine before bed and that might have taken the edge off a tiny bit. But I’d probably need six or ten more glasses to really make an effect. And as far as I know getting hammered off a bottle of wine every night is still not considered healthy, but I’m not going to lie, it’s tempting.
